January Juicing and Blending

Juicing and blending both involve extracting essential nutrients from fruits and vegetables and can be a convenient and advantageous way to add a large amount of fruits and vegetables into your diet. Although similar, both juicing and blending have some significant distinctions, that may make one option more appealing than the other when considering your needs and preferences. Juicing involves separating the juice from the fiber, while blending involves breaking the whole fruit or vegetable down into a smooth, drinkable consistency, including the fiber.

JUICING

The process of juicing removes the insoluble fiber which in turn allows the body to easily break down nutrients, making juicing a good option for individuals with digestive issues. The machine extracts the juice and removes the pulp. This means that juice does not contain the same amount of fiber as the whole fruit or vegetable, and it may be absorbed into the body more quickly. Juicing can also aid in detoxification, by flushing toxins from the body, and removing waste from the liver and kidneys.

Green Juice Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup spinach

  • 1 cup kale

  • 1/2 cucumber

  • 1/2 green apple

  • 1/2 lime, peeled

  • 1/2 inch ginger

Instructions:

  1. Wash and prepare all the ingredients.

  2. Run all the ingredients through a juicer and enjoy!

You can adjust the ingredients to your taste preference. Some other green vegetables and fruits you can use include celery, parsley, mint, and green bell pepper. You can also add a bit of honey or stevia for sweetness if needed.

BLENDING

Blended drinks, on the other hand, contain all the fiber from the whole fruit or vegetable, which can help slow down the absorption of sugars and may be more filling. However, blended drinks can also be higher in calories and may contain more sugar if sweet fruits are used. Blended drinks like juices are also a good option for those who are looking to add more fruits and vegetables to their diet. Blending can be less time-consuming and less expensive, as less produce is needed to make a blended drink. However, the flavor and texture can prove to be more challenging for some, as the pulp is left in the drink.

Green Smoothie Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana

  • 1 cup spinach

  • 1/2 cup kale

  1. Wash and prepare all the ingredients.

  2. Blend the banana, spinach, kale, avocado, almond milk, and ice in a blender until smooth.

  3. Add the honey (if using) and blend again.

  4. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

You can adjust the ingredients to your taste preference. Some other green vegetables and fruits you can use include cucumber, green apple, parsley, mint, and green bell pepper. You can also use other types of milk like soy, oat or cow milk, or yogurt to make it creamy.
